Purchasing

Function

The Purchasing Division coordinates the acquisition of all materials required by the Sheriff’s Office to function. These commodities include everything from office supplies and computer equipment to weapons, uniforms, and automobiles.

Regulations

All purchases are made in accordance with statutory law regulating public purchases. Typically:
  • For higher value items, public bids are let
  • For lower cost items, the sheriff requires the Purchasing Division to seek the lowest cost items by price comparison
  • For mid-level cost items, multiple quotes are obtained

State Purchasing Contracts

Other mechanisms include the purchase of items through the use of the State Purchasing Office, which allows state contracts and is oftentimes the most cost-effective.
