Captain Charles "Kenny" DeCorte Sr. is commander of the Sheriff's Office's Internal Affairs division.
His law enforcement career extends over 30 years with St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office. In 1981, he began his career in Orleans Parish, working as a Corrections Officer, Bailiff, and undercover narcotics officer. In 1985, he joined the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office as a patrol officer and was later promoted to the criminal investigations and narcotics divisions. Officer DeCorte worked at Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in patrol and traffic divisions from May 1993 to August 2001, before returning to the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office as a patrol officer. He was later promoted to Special Investigations and Internal Affairs divisions. In 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and served as Assistant Warden at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Killona, La. until April 2014.
Capt.DeCorte resides in Destrehan, Louisiana and is the father of 3 children.
Education & Training
In 1981, Charles DeCorte graduated from West Jefferson High School in Harvey, Louisiana. During the course of his law enforcement career, DeCorte has attended numerous seminars including topics such as Drug Enforcement Education; Polygraph and Voice Stress Analyzer; Hazardous Materials; Terrorist Bombings; Police Motorcycle Training and Homicide/Unclassified Death Investigation. Capt. DeCorte holds certifications in: Intoxilyzer 5000, DWI testing; Voice Stress Analyzer; Master Instructor in Taser M26; Less Lethal Instructor training; and Polygraph school.
