Sheriff Champagne announced the appointment of John "Joe" Ganote as the Chief Deputy of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office effective October 30, 2023.
Chief Deputy Ganote has 19 years of prior service with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office. He began as a deputy assigned to Patrol in June of 1998. He worked his way through the ranks in the Patrol Department, Special Investigations Division, Special Operations Division, and Crime Scene Division up to the rank of Captain over the Criminal Investigation Bureau and Patrol Department. During his tenure, Joe received many letters of commendation and awards. He also served as the Commander over the Special Response Team.
Joe left the St. Charles Parish Sheriffs' Office to assume the position of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director in St. Charles Parish where he led a 24-hour department responsible for maintaining written plans for the preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery of disasters. He later went on to serve as the Emergency Services and Security Leader at DOW Chemical where he oversaw all Emergency Response, Emergency Management and Security Operations at the site. The culmination of Ganote's knowledge and experience from his prior positions and training will give him additional perspectives and insight as our new Chief Deputy.
Training, Education & Awards
Chief Deputy Ganote is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session #247. He has more than 35 certifications and academies that he attended in emergency management and law enforcement. He attended Atlantic Christian College in North Carolina where he studied psychology and criminal justice before moving to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with the same majors. He was a 4-year collegiate baseball player and was drafted into the professional ranks where he played 10 seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers and the Texas Rangers organizations. He served as the Governor's Office Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) Region 3 Director for 5 years and has had the honor to serve as GOHSEP's Chairman of the Regional Director subcommittee for 4 consecutive years.
Chief Deputy Ganote and his wife, Melissa Ganote have resided in Montz for the past 18 years. They are the proud parents of Jacob and Mia Ganote.
