As of 2024, Captain Richards has serviced in law enforcement for 20 years. Captain Richards began his career in law enforcement with the Kenner Police Department in 2004. After a brief tenure with the Kenner Police Department, he started his career with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office.
St. Charles Parish Service
Captain Richards began his career with the St. Charles Sheriff's Office in 2004 as a Corrections Deputy. He later transferred to the Patrol Division as a Patrol Deputy. After, Captain Richards was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division as a Detective for five years. He then returned to the Patrol Division at the rank of Corporal and was later promoted to Sergeant. After five years of supervising Patrol Deputies, Captain Richards was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was reassigned as the Commander of the Internal Affairs Division. He currently serves as the Commander of the Criminal Investigations Bureau.
As the Commander of the Criminal Investigations Bureau, Captain Richards oversees the following Divisions:
- Criminal Investigations Division
- Juvenile Investigations Division
- Special Investigations Division (Narcotics)
- Crime Scene Division
- Detail Coordinator
Captain Richard is also the Team leader for the Drone and Robot Team assigned under the Special Response Team.
Education and Training
Captain Richards is a graduate from the Louisiana State University P.O.S.T. Academy and the St. Charles Sheriff's P.O.S.T. Academy. He also completed the National Command and Staff College Session 015 and is a graduate from the American International Institute of Polygraph.

Captain Richards and his wife, Lindsey, reside in Luling, Louisiana, along with their three girls.
