Captain Pertuis is the Assistant Chief of Investigations, overseeing the Criminal Investigations Division, Crime Scene Investigations, Juvenile Investigations Division, Special Investigations Division, and Special Operations Division. Captain Pertuis also oversees specialized positions where Sheriff’s Office Employees are assigned such as Hi-Tech/Cyber Crimes Division, US Marshal’s Office, DEA, FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, United States Secret Services, Special Response Team, and Mobile Field Force Team.
Personal Life
Captain Pertuis resides in Montz with his wife, Amanda, and his young daughter.
Education and Training
Captain Pertuis began his Law Enforcement Training at the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Basic P.O.S.T. Academy. From there, Captain Pertuis attended several specialized training classes, advancing his knowledge to benefit the Sheriff’s Office. Such classes include Basic and Advanced Homicide Investigations, Crisis Intervention and Crisis Negations, several Criminal Investigations and Terrorist Investigations related courses, and Institute for Credible Leadership Development Courses. Captain Pertuis graduated from the National Command and Staff College Session #009 in 2020.
In all, Captain Pertuis has attended well over 40 specialized training courses throughout his career totaling countless hours of invaluable training.
St. Charles Parish Service
Captain Derek Pertuis began his career with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office in November of 2001 after spending two years with the Gramercy Police Department. Captain Pertuis began in the Patrol Division and then moved to the Criminal Investigations Bureau in 2006. In 2010, Pertuis became the Sergeant of CIB, then Lieutenant of the division in 2014 where he oversaw countless misdemeanor and felony investigations ranging from simple shoplifting cases to major murder investigations. Captain Pertuis currently leads the Hostage Negotiator Team. Captain Pertuis also has taken a command position on countless emergency response assignments including the S.C.S.O.’s response to Calcasieu Parish after Hurricane Laura.
