Function
Special Investigations Division (SID) investigates all narcotics related violations in St. Charles Parish. Detectives are trained in undercover investigations, informant management, surveillance, case management, and other techniques related to illegal narcotics.

SID detectives work all level of narcotics distribution from street level dealers to traffickers. SID detectives conduct and oversee undercover operations involving controlled purchases of illegal narcotics by undercover officers and/or confidential informants.

Calls Received
In large part, SID detectives document and investigate intelligence information concerning illegal drug activities received from calls that are made to either the drug hotline (985) 785-4450, which became operational in March 2002, or the SID office (985) 783-1159.

The majority of the calls are usually made by concerned citizens who recognizes the high volume of traffic at a particular location or have heard where illegal drugs are being dealt in their neighborhood. Recently these calls have led to numerous investigations that resulted in arrests.
