The deputies of the St. Charles Parish Sheriffs Office’s Marine Division patrol the woods, waters, marsh, and swamp areas of St. Charles Parish, including the Bonnet Carre Spillway.
The Marine Division is on 24-hour call to
- Assist stranded boaters
- Perform search and rescue operations for missing hunters, fishermen, and boaters
- Respond to boat wrecks and drowning incidents
- Assist other divisions and agencies with any other emergency as needed
The Marine Division performs a variety of boating safety duties during routine patrols to ensure the safety of those using parish waters. These duties include enforcing wake zones, checking boats for required safety equipment, and addressing persons operating boats recklessly or while intoxicated.
Camp and Property Owner Assistance
The Marine Division also performs camp checks, serves as a liaison to camp owners, and helps owners of marsh and swamp property with a variety of problems.
Man-made & Natural Disaster Response
Additionally, the Marine Division maintains special purpose vehicles and boats, generators, and other rescue equipment for response to man-made and natural disasters.

The SCSO Dive Team has four members who are trained to perform rescue and recovery dive operations.
Lieutenant Sandy Dares supervises the operation of the Marine Division, assisted by Sergeant
Clint LeBlanc. Four reserve deputies are also assigned to this unit.
