Medical Priority Dispatch System
The 9-1-1 Communications Center utilizes the Medical Priority Dispatch System. This system, utilized when processing requests for emergency medical services, provides our personnel with a means to identify the medical complaint and the ability to offer aid to individuals at the location of the emergency. The aid offered is in the form of specific predefined instructions given to the caller.

National Crime Information Center Database
The Communications Division also houses a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database which provides law enforcement with immediate access to criminal history information, fugitives, stolen properties, missing persons, driver’s license, and vehicle registration information. This is a nationwide database that provides a vital link for the sheriff’s office with other law enforcement agencies throughout the country.

Enhanced 9-1-1
The Communications Center has Enhanced 9-1-1 or E-9-1-1. E-9-1-1 is a system that displays the caller’s address and information to the call-taker after automatically routing the call to the most appropriate PSAP for that address.

Computer-Aided Dispatch Software
The 9-1-1 Communications Center uses Computer-Aided Dispatch Software (CAD Software).   The CAD Software includes a mapping program enabling communications personnel to assist in directing emergency response personnel to the location of an emergency.

Radio System
The 9-1-1 Communications Center utilizes the Sheriff’s Office 700 MHz and 800 MHz radio systems providing for interagency, Parish wide and State wide interoperability.   The radio system is a valuable communications link connecting EMS, fire services, sheriff’s office, the St. Charles Parish School System, the St. Charles Parish EOC, and other parish departments.

New & Upcoming Systems & Equipment
In 2011, the Communications Center was upgraded. The inside of the building was painted, flooring replaced and new ceiling tiles installed. The Operations Room was rewired. Ergonomically designed 24-hour full use dispatch console furniture was installed.
