Lieutenant Jason Guidry, a St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Officer since 1988, has been assigned to the canine unit since January 2006. He is currently responsible for supervising and training four officers and six canines. Additionally, he is a handler for K-9 Miki, a German Short-haired Pointer, who is certified in explosives detection.
He is presently training Maxo, a Belgian Malinois in the fields of Patrol and Narcotics.
All canines are certified through National Police Canine Association. NPCA is a non-profit association dedicated to the training, development and certification of law enforcement canine teams and their administrators.
Several times a year, Lt. Guidry conducts certification classes for local law enforcement agencies in the fields of Patrol and Narcotics.
